Software Review: Mixxx Open Source DJ Software

Credit is due to CDMusic for introducing me to the Mixxx Open Source DJ Software last week.   Yes, that's three X's in mixxx and I assume it would have been four X's had mixxx.org been registered already like mixx and mix were.  My first impression to CDMusic's post was WOW; free software, no additional (proprietary) hardware and compatible with vinyl control.  That's pretty much all I ever wanted.

The latest mix show turned out quite well.  I have been listening to small parts since the recording and I am, at the risk of sounding blah, very impressed.  Not so much by the mixes, but the mix possibilities of old and new spanning close to 10 years is quite encouraging for the techno circle.  Villalobos has really stuck to his beat style since his start and still manages to create a new space with each song.  The plain white triple played twice on this mix is so similar to his early perlon and still new to the ears.&nbs

New Records For Me

I paid a visit to Ohio's premiere record shop, Cleveland's The Bent Crayon, this week.  It's probably been close to 5 years since I last visited the shop.  SInce moving to Columbus I haven't had enough opportunities to stop by.  Of course the owner is always willing to mail your goods direct, but a visit to the shop opens up a plethora of backlog.  I spent a good three hours sifting and listening and choosing.  Sure it's been a while, but the store has much to choose from and most of it is well worth the search.
